BOOK REVIEW: GIRL IN PIECES by Kathleen Glasgow

Girl In Pieces Kathleen Glasgow book review

Novel Description:

Charlotte Davis is in pieces. At seventeen she’s already lost more than most people do in a lifetime. But she’s learned how to forget. The broken glass washes away the sorrow until there is nothing but calm. You don’t have to think about your father and the river. Your best friend, who is gone forever. Or your mother, who has nothing left to give you.

Every new scar hardens Charlie’s heart just a little more, yet it still hurts so much. It hurts enough to not care anymore, which is sometimes what has to happen before you can find your way back from the edge.
A deeply moving portrait of a girl in a world that owes her nothing, and has taken so much, and the journey she undergoes to put herself back together. Kathleen Glasgow’s debut is heart breakingly real and unflinchingly honest. It’s a story you won’t be able to look away from.
Charlotte "Charlie" Davis is the symbolism of girls who have been abused physically, emotionally and mentally. Personally I don't experience "Self-harmed" I am lucky enough to have a good life surrounded by good people and that's what I realized while reading this novel. It is about a girl named Charlotte who experienced different struggles in life and thinking that all of her problem/ dirt that she feels inside will release by cutting her own skin. As she go along her journey to a new life she will meet people with the same experience and problem, people who will hurt her again, and people who will help her. It is an honest story about reality in life.

I don't want to spoil you guys, because this novel is "absolutely, positively, fucking angelic" and worth to read. This is one of the novel that makes me cry, I don't know why but I feel Charlie's struggles in life, I also think that she is one of the relatable character. It is easy to read and well written. I also want to applaud Ms.Kathleen Glasgow for researching about this kind of psychological problem. But..... I think the ending needs to have a second book? I don't know, I want to know what happened next to Charlie as she flew to the next chapter of her life. This is how I love this book, that I want a part two of Charlotte's story.

If this will be a movie I think Charlotte Davis looks like this (I imagine her like this):

Overall this is a MUST READ book definitely one of the book that I love for 2016.

BOOK REVIEW: The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin

1:49 AM

I saw this book in National Bookstore in Cubao and I was hooked on what the cover says " Why I spent a year trying to sing in the morning, Clean my Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and generally have more fun" and I said to myself "I NEED THIS" I want to know how Gretchen Rubin do her Happiness Project.

First of all I don't regret buying this book, I love how Gretchen written this book to make the readers relate to each situation and how she make her own commandments for this project. I also praise her for making some research from notable people who also study the theory of happiness and reflect this to her own project. I found this book inspiring on how I will improve my life and my interaction with other people.

BUT she tackles some situation wherein she applies one of her commandments and sometimes I doubted some of it because I think she is not being "Gretchen" which is her number 1 commandment, "Be Gretchen" but on the other hand maybe she is trying to apply some of her commandments if it will work. I also love that she tackles about Money, organization, friends, work and her family (which is one of the funny situation in the book). I like her outlook over money and happiness which I thought she will also say "that money can't buy us happiness" like Jessy J. implies on her song. I also love reading all the quotes about happiness from philosophers and authors.

One of the exciting part in the book is the list of "the secrets of adulthood" which is interesting to read specially i am near to the adulthood age. One of my officemate which is in the adulthood age range read the "Secret of adulthood" and he really relates to the list and he said that he also experienced some of it.

One of my favorite quote in the book:

Overall I want to rate this book as yellow succulent which means its a "GOOD BOOK"

Why I start to read books again

11:02 PM

This is my first blog post, and I want to share with you my journey in reading books through this blog, I want to pursuit my resolution to read books because a book brings different knowledge from different people. I used to read old books from my mom when I was a child such as Sidney Sheldon's novel and some random children books. I remember the first novel that I read is "Memories of Midnight" by Sidney Sheldon and I read it aloud every afternoon. It brings me to other world and I feel that I am in each crime scene of the novel. But I stop reading novels, and now I want to feel it again. I regret that I stop reading stories that brings me to another world.

When I was starting reading books again this year i tried to read books through e-book, its a new way of reading and I want to try it, but I'm not satisfy to it, I feel like I am not being supportive to the author, publishers and book stores who makes effort to publish a beautiful novel. Before I always ask my self if do i need to buy a book if there's an e-book that is more cheaper, because nowadays books are expensive specially the hard bounds. But I insist, I will buy real books to support the authors and publishers and it feels good to see the books that I bought and put it in my shelf after I read. I also want to keep them specially my favorite novels and share it to my future children like what my mother did.

I also decided to make a blog about my journey in reading books and share some insights and review to every book that I read. I also want to hear other people thoughts about what I am reading, and Don' worry I will not be a spoiler because I also hate spoilers.

How about you? I wanna know what was your first novel you read? and what you feel after you read that story? by leaving a comment down below.

Have a nice day and Happy Reading.
